I know, I know, it’s Friday all ready.  I had some technical difficulties yesterday, so this didn’t get posted.  But it’s here now!  Yeah!

Today I am thankful for my parents.  I have had the great privilege of having lunch with my parents every Tuesday for the past several years.  After lunch Dad goes home and Mom and I spend the rest of the day running errands and shopping.  I am so very fortunate to live in the same town with them.  Our lunches have deepened our friendship and my appreciation for their wit and wisdom.  We have a lot of fun together and these times are very precious to me.  Occasionally one of my kids or another family member will join us when they are in town.  But as much as I love them, I have to confess that I truly treasure most those days when it’s just the three of us.

The older I get the more I understand what life is really about.  Life is about relationships.  Real, heart-to-heart relationships.  And as it is with so many other things, quantity is no match for quality.  I have determined to be more deliberate with the relationships in my life.  They are gifts from Father to be nurtured and cherished and celebrated.

Oh what a glorious day it was yesterday!  Sunny and warm with just a bit of a breeze.  What an amazing gift!  Even though it’s a few weeks early to be planting, I just couldn’t resist.  It’s supposed to stay pretty mild until spring anyway.  Or so say they who know.

I always end up with more seeds than I have room to plant, but I got most of them in the ground.  I planted my lettuce mix and green onions and spinach.  I also got my snowpeas, green beans, and sugar snap peas in along the fence.   I also got some herbs going in pots in the house.  Then I just sat and soaked up some sunshine.  My, but it felt good.   Course, now I’ll be checking every day until I see the first green shoots poking up out of the ground.  I love watching things grow.  And I love harvesting veggies.  Not too crazy about the weeding part, I’ll have to admit.  But home grown veggies are worth it!  I’ll be sure to let you all know when stuff starts coming up.  🙂

What are you thankful for today?

Today I am thankful for the rain we’ve had this week.  One whole night we had a steady soaking rain, and rain showers at other times.  After the hottest summer on record and drought conditions I am so grateful for every drop we get.  I am continuing to ask Father to restore the water levels in the region.  Our farmers and ranchers were hit particularly hard, with some having to sell parts of their herds for lack of water.  So thank You, Father for the rain!  May it continue.  And I promise to not make any jokes about growing webbed feet… 🙂

What are you thankful for today?  Will you share with us?

Today I am thankful for cars.  I know that sounds a little silly.  It’s something that most of us probably take for granted.

At the beginning of last summer, my old white van had to be put out to pasture.  Literally.  (Well, ok, not a pasture exactly, but salvage yard isn’t as poetic.)  She had 263,000+ miles on her and had served the family well for many years.  At the time my father was not doing much driving while recovering from an illness, so my parents blessed me by giving me the use of his car.

Monday morning it was acting kinda funny when I took my daughter to work.  I was concerned it wasn’t going to make it home.  It did, barely, at 20 miles per hour and I heaved a sigh of relief as I closed the garage door.  I went back out to the garage a few minutes later and it was full of smoke!  I ran back in the house, got a big boc of baking soda, ran back to the garage, and popped the hood.  Thankfully there were no flames, but more smoke and that yucky “burning the insulation off of wires” smell.

Our mechanic’s lot was full-some kind of car epidemic-so it didn’t get towed until Tuesday morning.  Got it back late yesterday afternoon.  Thankfully it was a quick, relatively inexpensive (in mechanic dollars) fix.  Ignition coil and module were burned up, and I now fully understand the phrase “not running on all cylinders”, since only 2 were working.  I think that’s happened to me before! 🙂  As an added bonus, now that all 4 cylinders are working, I’m thinking that my mileage will probably improve.

While I have to admit I really enjoyed those few days at home where I didn’t have to take anyone anywhere or go pick anyone up, I’m not sure I want to try it long-term.  Three (semi)adults with one vehicle can get frustrating and even down right annoying at times, but I think I prefer one to zero.  So today, I am deeply thankful and greatly blessed that I have a car to drive.  What are you thankful for today?  If you have a blog post you’d like to share for Thankful Thursday, click below.  If you don’t have a blog, just share with us in the comment box.

I am sitting out on my front porch having lunch today and thankfulness has welled up inside me.  I am so thankful for my wonderful porch furniture.  It has been such a joy to sit out here with my tea and my Bible in the mornings and just spend time with Papa.  I am also thankful for a porch to put it on!  I am also incredibly thankful that it is11:45 am and I am outside and I am NOT SWEATING!  For those of you not living inOklahoma, this is a glorious thing.  We broke the long-standing record of days over 100 degrees this summer.  (There were over 50-after that I stopped counting)  I have to confess that I was not rooting for that particular accomplishment, but we made it even without my support. 🙂

Seriously, though, I am thankful for many things today, but I am most thankful for the stretching that I have gone through in the past few months.  This stretching has been and is and will be sometimes hard, sometimes painful, and always outside my comfort zone.  Papa is so faithful to give us what we ask of Him. I asked Him to remove everything in me that would hinder me from knowing Him and walking with Him like Jesus did.  And through it all I have been surrounded by grace.  Grace for the learning and grace for the teaching.  Grace for the victory and grace for the failure.  Grace for the moment and grace for the season.  The Bible tells us that His mercies are new every morning.  What grace!  What love!  And if that grace was the only thing I had, it would be abundantly more than enough with fill my soul with thanksgiving!

What are you thankful for today?  I would love to hear about the blessings in your life!
